Hello Guild

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

My name is Haikon and i'm the Guild Master of PlayedTheGame on our connected realm group. We're a UK based gaming community established back in 2003 where we hold not only in game events but also IRL events. I came across your guild on WoWProgress and would like to extend our hand to you to see if you're willing to merge into our guild to form a bigger more active guild.

Let me give you a bit of a backstory to our guild and community...

We're a heroic raiding guild and we classify ourselves as a hardcore social guild. "What does that mean" I hear you ask, let me explain. We raid 2 times a week Tuesdays & Wednesdays 20:00 - 22:30 UK time. We have families, quite a few of our guildies having become fathers/mothers for the first time or for 2nd/3rd time so having a casual attitude is important to us. But we don't let people slack ;). We want everyone to be the best they can be and we raid with this objective in mind, so taking criticism and owning up to one's mistakes is the norm for us.

For years we've taken new inexperienced players and coached/mentored them up to raiding level and as a result we've become a tightly knit community.

We also have guild events IRL too as mentioned. We had a guild meetup in London this year (photo of us in a restaurant: https://m.imgur.com/vL9j5N6) and we also attend the Multiplay gaming LANs.

Could you get in touch to discuss maybe further?

Huh, that is interesting. Amazing to find us just from WoWProgress.

Well I guess there will be some interest in this.

So we are a group that formed 2005 (thereabout) from a group of friends at uni playing wow. Most of your story would probably reflect the same as ours.

Currently we only raid Thursdays 20:00-22:00 due to the peoples schedules and lives. However must say it is a delightful proposition, cant wait to hear what others think.

I suspect there's a bunch of us that would be more up for some heroic stuff. We did all of Legion on heroic and it was fun.

It's not for everyone in the guild though so would need some thought.

Wealso do transmog runs, mythic+ and guild warfronts too. We're not raid focused, we also do raid and dungeon achievements for the lolz.

Did I mention we have the memes too :)

Feel free to add me to battle.net

That sounds like a pretty similar background to ours. We stopped doing heroic raiding this expansion though for various reasons.

I'm sure there'd be a few people who'd be interested in joining you for heroic raids but I'm not sure there's an appetite for a full merger - some of us have been in this guild since TBC XD

Hey so I'll do my best to explain a bit about us and answer this though it'll be a bit open-ended.

Firstly congratulations on being the first real living human to register an account here in about three years. I genuinely assumed this post was going to be spam about viagra or get-rich-quick schemes. :D

BoT is, at its heart, a group of us who went to university together, friends we've introduced to the guild, and a few others that we've picked up along the way. So most of us know each other in real life and playing WoW is basically a way to keep in touch when we live variously across the country. BoT is much more than a WoW guild and there's absolutely no appetite for disbanding it or merging it into any other guild because it means too much to me and others as an identity of who we are as a group of people and a community of friends.

We don't really have a formal leadership structure. The GM is currently held by the member of the guild who most likes sorting out the guild bank and keeping guild notes and ranks tidy because we don't really need the GM role for anything else! There are three of us who are still around from the original five who founded the guild and we each try as much as possible to do a little as we can in regards to actually taking any responsibility, making decisions, or running things! The guild mostly runs itself. We currently do raids on Thursdays and M+ on Mondays but it's pretty informal and we just go along with whatever we want to do as a group based on who shows up.

I'm personally not too interested in Heroic raiding any more nor in setting up formal alliances and raid nights and such with other guilds. I just don't have the time or inclination to do that kind of shit any more. The guild pretty much runs itself, people log in, we have fun, that suits me just fine.

But if other people do want to join your guild they are, of course, welcome to do that, and we wouldn't try to stop anyone. We barely have the numbers for raids at this stage so they don't really happen much and if people really want to do raids and want to find another guild to do them in then that's absolutely cool with me. Similarly if anyone wants to raid with you while being in BoT that's totally cool with us as well. But I don't think we'd be looking to set up anything formal.

Anyone else is welcome to pitch in with ideas etc. but that's where I stand on it.

I'll more or less echo what Nacey said. Having been part of running this guild for over a decade and endured plenty of mergers/separations/cooperatives etc etc in that time, we definitely won't be looking to merge in-game. People in this guild have a long link to it and to a few other "old" names that still knock around our connected realms. Just yesterday in fact we had a player log back in for the first time since whenever level 80 was the cap.

Much like yourself, real life has moved a long way in that time for a lot of our guild members and hence our very casual approach to everything. As officers we do precisely nothing (I mean, I raid lead occasionally) and that suits us fine. I'll disappear in a raid because the baby woke up for example and that's fine. We stepped back from heroic in this expansion in part because I didn't want to run them but I don't believe that was the only reason and the appetite for it is very low here now. That isn't to say no-one would be interested, but many are not.

However, there is a core of 7/8 people who push M+ each week and try to gain AP in an efficient manner so there is nothing beyond attitude holding us back from heroic, we certainly have the gear for it.

I would propose an in-game community be set up for both guilds to join and to act as an expanded pool of players to draw from when setting up raids, M+, islands etc. I'm guessing, though your post doesn't say it, that you might be facing a similar position with raid numbers as we are. When the stars align there are 11-12 people online but typically it is 8-9 and hence raids don't happen. A community would be a good way for our players interested in heroic raids to join your runs and a good way for us to look for more players if we're short on raid night.

I don't think you'll find people here who are willing to raid 5 hours a week with you though. I might be wrong (Welsper has nothing else to do but who's counting him) and you find a couple but I doubt it. Personally I can just about get M+ and maybe a raid into a week but that's it. I enjoy M+ much more than heroic raiding so I wouldn't be looking to change that on a regular basis but if I have a free week and am in the mood I could be persuaded.

Ah yeah good shout which I forgot to say. I'm totally cool with there being one of those fancy new in-game community things if there's interest from both guilds in doing that. As long as it requires no work from me. :D
