Kryton Report post Posted January 31, 2017 I have attempted to get quote to have a tax return sent to HMRC by courier only to find the postcode they provide is not recognised and hence the courier will not accept it
Dan Report post Posted February 1, 2017 My tech lead just left the company. His parting words to me were "It's been good working for you" and "You have a good team"... Does this mean I'm in charge?
Lagrosh Report post Posted February 1, 2017 If you think you're already leading the team (it's pretty obvious when this is the case), then apply for the job and make that point. Otherwise you'll end up not having it on your CV, not getting paid for it, and doing it anyway. Make sure the rest of the team agree though.
Dan Report post Posted February 1, 2017 The "its been good working for you" was essentially a slip, what he was trying to say was that its been good having me on the team, which he was Tech Lead of, but at our company, Tech Leads are not responsible for the team, so neither of us worked for the other. Brynneth Report post Posted February 3, 2017 TIL that IE and Firefox will automatically attempt to web search a single word string in the address bar, unlike Chrome which attempts to resolve it as a DNS alias first. Otherwise, you have to manually add at least a / at the end of the word, or the http. I found this out when someone was attempting to access our Help Desk system, ISOL (at http://ISOL/) in IE and getting sent to Bing searches about the Islamic State... Nacey Report post Posted February 3, 2017 Yeah I remember encountering the same thing years ago when we had an internal Sharepoint that only worked properly in IE (and about half of the employees would use IE for everything anyway). My boss could not get his head around it, I had to make him a bookmark.
Mokajin Report post Posted February 10, 2017 I struggled to keep a straight face today while a colleague explained to one of the call centre girls that unicorns were real they just went extinct because we hunted them all. She 100% bought it.

Brynneth Report post Posted February 20, 2017 Let's see who here can speak user. Ticket comes in under Request > email group with the following text verbatim: "only user required is for me to access email group - electrical reports" If you've parsed that as "Amend the electrical reports email group access list so I am the only user." then you can join our IT team. You also fail the test. Who can interpret what the user actually wanted and later clarified?
Dan Report post Posted February 20, 2017 They want to be able to log in to that group either without a password, or simply as "user". The vending machine is out of orange soda. These seem about equally likley
Brynneth Report post Posted February 20, 2017 The email group is an exchange user mailbox, requires no logging in. User prefers lemon-lime anyway.

The email group is an exchange user mailbox (which the user already has access rights on) so shows up automatically in Outlook with no sign-ins or authentication. Dan Report post Posted February 20, 2017 Yes. I'm suggesting they wanted to change it to require access via "user" - a login that is currently not in the way of using that mailbox. These are users, it can actually be anything.
Nacey Report post Posted February 20, 2017 Whatever that user wants they are wrong and do not deserve it.
Brynneth Report post Posted February 20, 2017 What they actually wanted was to be granted access to the mailbox that they already had access to. We than removed access from anyone else, shortly afterwards receiving a follow-up roughly of "Why did you remove everyone from that mailbox, you were only supposed to add me to it."
